Presented by The City of El Segundo with Support from Chevron
Come join art enthusiasts and community members on Saturday, August 24th at the 9th annual El Segundo Art Walk (ESAW) from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. to celebrate art and culture in the ever-evolving Smoky Hollow and Downtown neighborhoods of El Segundo. With many of the ESAW activities taking place on Main, Eucalyptus, Richmond and Penn streets, visitors are encouraged to arrive early and stroll through the different exhibitions and pop-up galleries throughout the thriving community.
Start your evening at the ESAW Headquarters, located at Fire Station 1 at 314 Main Street, where you can pick up maps, view and purchase art from uniquely curated exhibitions featuring local artists, sample beer from El Segundo Brewing Company and enjoy live music. ESAW Headquarters is open from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m.
New this year, El Segundo Art Walk will be closing off a section of Richmond Street just west of Grand Avenue. Additional artist exhibitions, live music and other entertainment will be featured at this location.
FEATURED ARTISTS: Amarika Chavez’s handmade clothing and hand-cranked live chain stitching will show at the ESAW Headquarters along with South Bay’s Spooky Harris’ unconventional fold/punk paintings. Shae Zoe Reardon, a California landscape painter, will exhibit at WWOO Outdoor Kitchen, along with Mister Alek, a self-taught graffiti artist from Ecuador.
MUSIC STAGE: A portion of Eucalyptus will be shut down from Grand to Franklin Avenues. This section will host live music from El Segundo bands Hoist the Colors, Pet Project, and Scott Fleetwood.
NEW AUGMENTED REALITY: ESAW, the City of El Segundo, and Reality Experience Design bring together artists and technologists to create new augmented reality (AR) murals and a new interactive art map to unify public art in El Segundo. The 2024 initiative highlights three augmented public art pieces in El Segundo including: Portals to Memory by Nanibah Chacon at the El Segundo Public Library, The Spirit of Aerospace by Scott Bloomfield at the Masonic Lodge, and the New Butterfly Mosaic at Embassy Suites by Hilton LAX South. In addition at the hotel, a new El Segundo blue butterfly mural and a series of four paintings will be unveiled.
KICKOFF & MONTH LONG: On Thursday, August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. there will be an ESAW kickoff event Song Writers in the Round: The Art of Song at the El Segundo Public Library in collaboration with the El Segundo Arts & Culture Committee. This event is free and features performances by singer/songwriter/musicians Rob Bonfiglio, Paula Fong, Sean Lane and Evie Sands, with a special guest Carianne Marshall, chief operating officer at Warner Chappell Music.
Local artist Curtis Green's "Second Look" series, a collection of oil paintings that feature iconic spots in El Segundo, will be on display at the El Segundo Public Library for the month of August. Limited edition prints of his "The Plunge" painting will be for sale with a portion of proceeds going towards fundraising for the renovation of the historic pool landmark.
About El Segundo Art Walk
The El Segundo Art Walk is an organization that supports local community economic development through a variety of programs, which includes the self-guided “Art Walk” in El Segundo. Our mission is to improve the local community, to inspire culture and to create economic opportunities for artists, galleries, and small businesses through our local programs.
About 1% for the Arts
In 2018, El Segundo City Council adopted legislation that requires new commercial developments valued over $2 million to contribute an equivalence to 1% of their project costs towards public art, cultural events, and arts programming. The Cultural Development Program stewards this fund and facilitates the valuable contributions from developers in the pursuit of making El Segundo a place where arts and culture can thrive. To date, the Cultural Development Program has generated over $2.1 million for arts and culture in the City, coordinated and facilitated more than a dozen public artworks and year-round programming, including the El Segundo Art Walk. We thank all of our partners in the community.
